UV-C are the shortest wavelength and most dangerous of the UV rays, and are mostly filtered out of the atmosphere by the ozone layer. These rays help in the production of melanin, the pigment associated with the tanning process. By only exposing your skin to these certain UV rays, for a specified time period, you speed up the tanning process, and spend less time exposed to the harmful effects.

Tanning beds are no longer strictly the domain of tanning and beauty salons either. With modern manufacturing techniques, the parts are smaller, cheaper and easier to find. The beds themselves can be made to order, with custom colours and configurations. They can be made to stand horizontal or upright in a vertical position to become a tanning booth so they can fit into almost any space. So if you aim to have the perfect California tan all year round, instead going to California, bring California home with a tanning bed.
