Tanning bed safety
The dangers of tanning beds have been greatly reduced over the years so you can safely tan at home as well as you do at the tanning salon. However tanning bed safety is still an issue that you should be aware of and there are many things you can do to insure your health and well-being. When it comes to tanning bed safety, it is far better to be cautious and aware of your environment.
The real dangers of tanning beds is the exposure to light using the UV wavelength, however the bulbs used only emit UV-A (long waves) and UV-B (medium waves) light. UV-C are the shortest wavelength and most dangerous of the UV rays, and are mostly filtered out of the atmosphere by the ozone layer. They are also the only wavelength of ultra violet that is NOT produced by tanning light bulbs. To insure your tanning bed safety, it is always a good idea to use a specialized lotion designed for use in tanning beds as well as wear a set of tanning bed goggles to protect your eyes.
Another aspect of tanning bed safety that you should be aware of is the proper maintenance of your tanning bed. Faulty timers or old bulbs could increase your risk of sunburn or even skin cancer, so it's important to insure that your equipment is well maintained in perfect working order. With proper maintenance, the risks of overexposure will be kept to a minimum and you and your clients can be sure that you will get the perfect 'sun-kissed' Hollywood movie star tan every time.
