Self tanning made easy!
There are many methods of self tanning-- from pills and lotions to applications sprayed directly upon the body. Self tanning is a great alternative to tanning beds or even the sun, which carries significant risk of overexposure, leading to sunburn or even skin cancer in extreme cases.
The self tanning method involves dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. DHA is a colourless sugar that interacts with the dead cells in the stratiem corneum layer of the epidermis, causing the skin to change colour, giving it a tanned look. Because the epidermis sheds these dead cells every 5 to 7 days, a reapplication is required every week or two in order to maintain the effect.
Self tanning lotions have been around for over 30 years and have greatly improved in quality from the distinctive orange colour they used to produce on the skin. Now there are pills that work from within the body and lotions that can be sprayed on like paint to produce a flawless, evenly coloured bronzed shade of skin. You can now have a perfect 'sun-kissed' California movie star tan without ever even seeing the light of day and no one will ever be able to tell the difference.
