Is the Tanning Bed You Use a Current Model?
The tanning bed industry continues to evolve with new and improved methods for eliminating harmful UV rays, while increasing comfort and enjoyment. Older model sunbeds used to include UVB rays which are known to cause sun burning and cause skin disease. Since then, tanning companies have created UVA tanning beds, which eliminate harmful UVB rays. Many medical experts however feel that UVA rays may also cause skin disease and warn against it.
Recently, high pressure tanning beds have been introduced into indoor tanning salons, which eliminate UVB and some UVA rays, believed to be dangerous. If you frequent a tanning salon then we suggest that you may want to check into if there is a difference in the types of tanning beds available. If so, ask which ones is the latest model and arrange to have your appointment using that tanning bed. If your tanning salon offers high pressure beds, although they may be a little more expensive, consider booking these for your tanning session and perhaps decrease a cup of java or two to make up for the difference in cost.
Many commercial tanning salons do take extra care to provide only the best in quality for their customer, ensuring that tanning bed bulbs and lamps are replaced properly and their equipment is up to the latest standards. We suggest you do a little questioning of the salon staff members, preferably the owner to get an idea if your salon is doing the same. Don’t forget fair skin types should use tanning beds in moderation or combine other sunless tanning methods, such as sunless tanning lotions or airbrush tanning to reduce your risk of UV rays of any kind.
